About Djuan

The Vision
Behind
The Stage.

Jacksonville, Florida native Djuan Ballinger, MBA, founded The Stompdown to create a stage for talent that deserved to be seen. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in stepping and choreography, he has guided its growth from a student-led show in Tallahassee to a national championship that brings generations of performers together.

Djuan earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University and his Master of Business Administration from Northcentral University. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity. His involvement also extends to Progressive Black Men, Inc. and the National Society of Leadership and Success. He received Global Capital Enterprise’s 40 Under 40 award.

Through The Stompdown and The Stompdown Foundation, he continues to expand opportunities for young people while honoring the artistry and cultural legacy of stepping.

The early stage

The original show welcomed step teams representing organizations such as Alpha Phi Omega, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Sigma Lambda Gamma and Tau Beta Sigma.

What began as a response to limited access continued to grow—eventually becoming The Stompdown, a national championship platform for elementary, middle school, high school, independent and Greek step teams from across the country.
